EWOPA is a European multidisciplinary group interested in the psychosocial wellbeing of children with a chronic kidney disease and children with an organ transplantation. Children and adolescents with chronic kidney failure have the same basic needs as healthy youngsters. They must have possibilities to play, to learn, to have social activities and contacts, and to feel comfortable and safe.
From time to time these requirements are forgotten or hidden under urgent medical needs that tend to seem more important. In the Ewopa meetings we want to bring the children's / families' points of view out to the open!
In this conference we bring caregivers with different professional background together and discuss actual topics on different areas of treatment and care for children with chronic kidney failure. We will present latest research findings regarding the psychosocial aspects of chronic kidney disease. In addition, participants can share with each other their experiences from different areas and, thus, we can provide the best available care and treatment to our patients. Our definition of the best treatment includes both medical treatment and psychosocial well-being.
As children with chronic kidney diseases are growing, transition care is a very important topic in these meetings. Therefore thorough involvement, interaction and discussion with adult nephrologists, who unavoidably act as key stakeholders in the transition process, will be included.
